fantasy-footballToday, I lost my virginity.

My Fantasy Football virginity, that is.

Yep, you heard right, I participated in a Fantasy Football draft with some coworkers on Facebook. And to be honest, I’m pretty stoked. With the slight help of my younger brother, I was able to pick some good players – well, I hope they’re good. However, the experience wasn’t what I imagined.

I worked in a sports bar for four years. Like clockwork, every single fall, hoards of grown men would race to reserve a large table to host their drafts at our bar. This way, they could order a million wings and drink a hundred beers and have a blast.

For my first draft experience, I sat in my kitchen and chatted (talked a little smack) with some competitors while we drafted via Facebook. No beer, no wings, no party. Perhaps this is telling of the world we live in today – and the job I do every day – bringing people “closer” via social media.

Honestly, it was pretty cool. Facebook had the draft all set up in order. We could tell when it was our turn to draft by a red box around our profile picture. We were able to queue certain players to pick, and sometimes watch them get snatched up right in front of our eyes. When it was our turn, all we had to do was select a player and click draft. The team components were listed on the right. We were able to see exactly what positions we needed filled (which was useful for a beginner like me).

So here’s what I ended up with:

QB – Tom Brady

RB – Reggie Bush

RB – Larry Johnson

WR – Terrell Owens

WR – Braylon Edwards

WR – Brandon Marshall

TE – Jason Witten

FL – Beanie Wells

BN – Williw Parker

BN – Jamal Lewis

BN – David Garrard

BN – Earnest Graham

BN – Darren McFadden

K – Nick Folk

DEF – Tennessee Titans

Whaddya think?
