Fair Warning

Delivering Happiness, written by Tony Hsieh (pronounced Shay), the CEO of Zappos.com, is about much more than one of Fortune magazine’s top 25 companies to work for. It’s about more than Amazon’s acquisition of the company valued at over $1.2 billion. It’s about more than making money and starting a company. In fact, this book is about starting from scratch. It’s about trusting strangers. It’s about taking giant leaps, and hoping for success. Most importantly, it’s about happiness. Discovering it, and distributing it around the world.

Message reads: I’m from another world. Care to join me? Do I really need to answer that? WHERE DO THESE PEOPLE COME FROM? Notice the CAT on his head.

I was a little late on the bandwagon of Elizabeth Gilbert’s Eat, Pray, Love, but I did hop on. And it was quite a ride.

A brief synopsis: Elizabeth went through a terrible divorce, which she doesn’t divulge much about. It almost came across as if she woke up one morning crying in the bathroom and wanted a divorce. There is no backlog as to why this marriage was so miserable – but it laid the foundation for her journey around the world to find “a balance between worldly enjoyment and divine transcendence.”

First of all, yes, I’m admitting to succumbing to the Internet to date. I’m not going to defend my decision to do so farther than stating that I don’t like to meet guys in bars or clubs as they’re only looking for one thing, and with my work and play schedule, it’s hard for me to meet anyone outside of, well, the Internet.

Second of all, it’s hard. Really hard.

So, my lovely and ever-so-thoughtful father made me watch Criminal Minds last night. For those of you who don’t know, Criminal Minds is an American police drama that follows a team of profilers from the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit. They focus on the criminal rather than the crime itself. Needless to say, he didn’t have to twist my arm too hard, as I am a huge fan of those crime shows – CSI, Law & Order, NCIS, etc. However, this episode of Criminal Minds hit a little close to home.

I read an article courtesy of my beautifully successful friend Jamie that really pissed me off. Here’s the synopsis: In the book Marry Him: The Case for Settling for Mr. Good Enough, Lori Gottlieb argues that if a hyper-educated, ambitious woman is still single after age 35, it’s because she’s too picky. According to Gottlieb, [...]
