Facebook’s release of a number of upgrades to their Like feature extends the possibilities for brand affiliation on Facebook. The new Like button offers:
- The ability to like within applications (on a Canvas Page);
- The ability to link the Like button to Pages and,
- The option to have a “box count” for the button to show how many users have liked it.
What do these changes mean for brands?
- The ability to like a Page through an application (including on a Canvas Page) will streamline the user process and only require them to perform the task of “liking” once, conveniently on the tab. Once a user likes the Page, brands can the contact any fan who has ever liked anything on their website as well as their Facebook Page.
- With the ability to link Like buttons to Pages, brands are able to embed a Like button that doesn’t explicitly say the name of their Page but holds the same functionality. This means that brands have more flexibility when promoting their Page and also offers a subtle way to increase the promotion of their Page.
- The upgrade in the size and layout of the Like button is a great way for brands to gain more likes – with more size, the button creates an even larger call to action.
