The description, “Day Spa” doesn’t even begin to cover what Earthbody is. Earthbody is a sanctuary in the heart of Hayes Valley. It is an escape – a safe haven – from the hustle and stress of the city.
I started going to Earthbody last year when The Boyfriend got me a Groupon for a Goddess Treatment (seriously, guys, you should check out this treatment. It’s absurd). Needless to say, I was hooked. In January, I decided to treat myself to a monthly membership at Earthbody ($89/month for a 60 minute Ground Massage or Facial). Let me tell you, it was one of the best decisions I made all year. Each month, I walk into Earthbody stressed, tense and overwhelmed. Each month, I walk out of Earthbody rejuvenated, relaxed and ready to take on the world.
Earthbody is more than just a spa, it’s also part apothecary. They carry (and use) their own handcrafted, natural body and skincare products. I’ve been itching to try a product in their line, and Earthbody was nice enough to gift me one of their newly re-formulated cleanser & masks.
“Many face washes use surfactants and emulsifiers to give you that “squeaky” clean feeling while leaving your skin dry and irritated. Our cleanser & masks use healing clays that bind to toxins, draw out oil, and clarify congestion naturally, without leaving you high and dry.”
Straight from the Earthbody website, the Purity Cleanser & Mask is “a powerhouse of sea plants, rhizomes, barks, and berries handcrafted to clarify oily skin and alleviate future breakouts.” It is a “potent blend of silica, phytonutrients and acne-fighting salicylic acids draw out toxins, oxygenate skin, and heal blemishes.”
The ingredients include; clay such as Montmorillonite; powdered plants such as spirulina, kelp, wheat grass and carrot; and essential oils such as lemon, lime, cypress and Eucalyptus. With ingredients as wholesome as this, the cleanser & mask is truly irresistable.
For daily use as a cleanser, mix 1/2 teaspoon of powder with 1/2 teaspoon of warm water to create a paste. I actually prefer a slightly thicker paste so I either add a little more powder or a little less water. You can change up the consistency easily this way.
Add the powder and the water to a small bowl and mix together.
Yes, it turns bright green. And yes, you kind of look like the Wicked Witch of the West when you rub it on your face. I spread the paste gently on my face, avoiding my eyes. The cleanser has a gentle exfoliant and feels absolutely luxurious on the skin.
You can rinse the cleanser off with warm water right away, or leave on for a few minutes for a deeper clean. The cleanser leaves the skin feeling moisturized and fresh. The essential oils calm the senses and leave you feeling relaxed and rejuvenated. It’s like bringing a little piece of Earthbody heaven home with me.
My next step is trying Purity as a mask by mixing 1 teaspoon of powder, 1/2 teaspoon of flax oil, 1/2 teaspoon of tea and 1/2 teaspoon of lemon juice. I can’t wait to add this ritual to my week.
Do you know anyone who would benefit from a little pampering this season? I couldn’t recommend Earthbody more as the perfect oasis. Not in SF? Check out some of Earthbody’s incredible skincare products (free shipping in the U.S.!).
