Over a year ago, I created a digital vision board. It was full of images of who I want to become, what I want to have, what I want to be doing, and where I want to be in my life. The idea is that my life would change to match those images and those desires.
Within this digital vision board, I included images of girlfriends laughing, relaxing and writing in a bathtub, fresh veggies, fitness, photography, sex, a dream office, and a Greek landscape.
Now, more than one year later, I find myself checking goals off my list and reaching for new ones to achieve.
Looking back on that vision board, I’ve realized that the only item I haven’t achieved is that adventure to Greece. The rest? Check.
It’s an incredible feeling to know that you set out to accomplish something and have come out successful. I’ve made incredible friends in San Francisco (and maintained friendships in Colorado) — of which much laughter is shared. I’ve made relaxation and “me time” a top priority, and effectively integrated time to unplug into my life. Because of this, I feel more balanced, more alive. Since that digital vision board was created, I’ve lost nearly 20 pounds by changing my eating habits, splurging on a personal trainer, and owing it to myself to go to the gym five days a week. Veggies and fitness? Check and check. I finally dusted off my camera on my trip to London and Yosemite National Park. It was exhilarating to be behind the lens again. I’ll spare my mom and dad the details of my sex life, so let’s just say, check. While my office doesn’t exactly look like the one pictured on my digital vision board, I continue to be blessed with opportunity, challenges and responsibility at work. That’s a dream come true. The only thing missing is Greece; however, I did travel to Europe for the first time this year, so that almost counts.
So now what? What do I want now?
It’s time to update the vision board and create some new goals and desires for myself. What’s funny is that my goals and dreams are very similar to what they were last year. Even though they seem to be “accomplished” all the time, I find that nothing is every truly…done.
What have you accomplished? What do you hope to accomplish now?
I really need an updated vision board. I tossed my last one a couple of months ago because I realized I’d either accomplished what I wanted to accomplish, or the things I thought were priorities just weren’t any more. My Life List sort of serves as documentation of what I have accomplished, but it is now about time I put my next round of visions and intentions on a board. Though… Chris and I do have a shared vision board that I can look up from my desk and see. And I’ll tell you this much – it includes a house in Southern California and an Airstream. 🙂
Update it!! It’s so important to keep everything fresh. My life list is more specific, physical things, I think. The vision board is broader. Love it!
I made a vision board two summers ago and like you, I’ve done a lot of it. I love the idea of a digital one and might have to steal the idea.
Great post!
Feel free to steal it! The only thing I don’t like about the digital vision board is that once the post is published, I don’t check it that often. I like the actual vision boards (made on a cork board) better, but these are easier to share and contain the EXACT image I’m picturing.
I need a life list and vision board to encourage me to work toward big goals that I always kick around, but never can commit to. I want to travel more, finish college, read more, work on my house and do things that scare me more often.
I love the idea of a vision board (obviously). I have two cork boards hanging in my closet — one containing magazine clippings of goals for work, and one for personal. They have quotes and images of all the things I want in my life. Every time I read a magazine, I’m always looking for new inspiration. And every day, while I’m getting dressed and ready to take on the day, I see the vision boards and what I truly want. It’s great! Always a good reminder 🙂
Great post. Made me remember I’m still working toward that G5! Thanks for sparing me. I truly appreciate it.
Isn’t it a G6? 😛
i’ve never been a vision board sort of person, but i’m guessing that is why sometimes i feel out of sorts and unfocused. there’s nothing to REMIND me.
It’s so great to have a reminder. I have a cork board with magazine clippings that’s hung in my closet. Every morning, I see what’s important to me and what I want to achieve. It’s always changing, but it’s great to just have a little message every day! 🙂
