I’ve finally settled into an evening skincare routine that makes me so blissfully happy to crawl into bed. I’ve always known how important it is to take off your makeup before bed, but for years….I didn’t (shhh!!). Then, once I started getting tired of waking up with eyeliner all over my face and foundation on my pillow, I graduated to using cleansing wipes to just remove the makeup before I went to sleep. This is better, but still not ideal for keeping your skin cleansed and healthy.

I like to keep it simple with my skincare. First, I don’t want to spend 30 minutes in the bathroom getting ready for bed every night (that will just discourage me from doing it), and second, I like to really know what’s working and when you use so many different products, it’s harder to tell which product is doing what. Not to mention, skincare is expensive!

Here’s a rundown on my current evening skincare routine. The only time I change things up is when my skin is particularly dry or is going through an angry breakout phase (I’ll post more about these two scenarios soon!).

My Skintype: Normal/Combination/Mild Redness/Uneven Skintone

Step 1: Remove Makeup

I just started playing around with micellar cleansing waters and I’m such a huge fan. This one from Sephora is awesome. I love the large size and the pump — makes it a super quick process. It’s very lightly fragranced and takes off all of my face and eye makeup (even waterproof mascara!) in a simple, water-free step. It’s also surprisingly hydrating and doesn’t leave my skin feeling stripped at all. I’ve also tried the Caudalie cleansing water and am equally obsessed. For the price, Sephora brand wins.

Step 2: Cleanse.

If there’s anything that shifts consistently in my skincare regimen, it’s cleansers. I like to try new ones all the time. The FAB Face Cleanser is becoming one of my favorites. I got a travel size in The Great Cleanse kit from Sephora and I love it! It’s extremely gentle and does a great job of removing any leftover makeup the cleansing water happens to miss. It comes out of the bottle with a sort of whipped texture that turns into a rich cream when blended with water. Best of all, it’s not stripping or drying at all. And, according to the Sephora website, it calms redness and is pH-balanced to maintain the natural acidity of the skin. My skin absolutely feels calmer using this cleanser.

Step 3: Moisturize. (Face oil!!!)

Guys. I am obsessed with face oils. I have tried so many, from Josie Maran Argan Oil to the Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate, my love for face oils really can’t be paralleled. My latest obsession? The Pai Rosehip BioRegenerate Oil. Straight from the Pai website, the Rosehip BioRegenerate Oil refines the appearance of damaged skin and fine lines, contains high levels of Trans Retinoic Acid that delivers Pro-Vitamin A to the skin without causing irritation, and is the most concentrated Rosehip Oil on the market today. Basically, this magical oil helps your skin repair overnight. It improves firmness and elasticity and boosts the skin’s natural healing process. Rosehip oil is a concentrated “fruit” oil that is extracted using volcanically sourced CO2 to preserve the complete properties of the plant. This oil is organic and a little goes a very long way.

Step 4: Save the eyes.

When it comes to anti-aging, eye cream is essential. I tried a bunch of different samples of eye creams over the past few months and the REN Keep Young and Beautiful Anti-Ageing Eye Cream came out as one of my favorites. It’s super light but very moisturizing and doesn’t settle and drag your eyes down. I tried some eye creams that just felt so heavy they were actually glopping (yes, I just created that word) my eyes down. This one is light, fresh and when I wake up in the morning, my eyes look refreshed and ready to take on the day.

Step 5: Bed!

Implementing a nighttime skincare ritual has been very soothing for me. It gives me the time and space to take the day off and prepare to reset and restart. Plus, it’s so nice to do a little pampering each night. Stay tuned for a morning skincare routine coming soon!
